Germany: Angst Over the Euro

In her campaigning efforts, Angela Merkel has been encouraging voters to think positively, and that the “currency is stable.” However, not all of her supports are convinced. Not only this, but a larger cause for concern for Merkel is the increasing degree of dissent among her allies. The most legitimate cause for the concern, however, remains the euro crisis itself. Having attempted to help indebted euro members while refusing to write blank cheques, resistance from Mrs. Merkel’s coalition is stiffening. Dissenters have now voiced two primary concerns: Will the Bundestag will be stripped of its right to determine how taxpayers’ money is spent? And will Germany end up throwing more money into countries that are unwilling or unable to solve their own problems?
