In considering the future of energy, one thing is clear: alternative energy will no longer be the alternative. Today, wind farms are responsible for over 2% of the world’s electricity – with this figure doubling every three years. However, all eyes are currently on solar power and the growth we can expect to see in this area in the following years – as this type of renewable energy has the potential to turn the electricity market on its head. That said, fossil-fuel-powered electricity will not be disappearing anytime soon. In places like China and India, the demand for power is such that nothing can keep up with it – and all forms of power are employed to full capacity. In these countries, the technology required to make use of the wind and solar power is also less developed. But it is safe to expect this to change shortly as well.
