Marine Technology: A Voyage of Discovery

Norway is arguably at the forefront of marine technology and innovation. One of the more recent products of Norway’s efforts in this arena is the Far Solitude – the first of a new class of vessels overflowing with novel marine technology that serves to make shipping safer, cleaner, and cheaper too. Created to function as a platform-supply ship servicing the North Sea, the Far Solitude measures only a third of the length of a standard ship. However, a number of the innovations employed by this technologically advanced ship could be put to good use on vessels of every size. With far tighter regulations on ships’ emissions well on their way for vessels traveling the North Sea, the Baltic, and the coast of North America, ship owners will be required to put a halt on using bunker fuel, making the technology being demonstrated on the Far Solitude that much more interesting to the shipping industry as a whole…
